In this week's episode, Jaime and Tony dive into the games they've been playing recently.

Welcome back to the episode of good to game radio I'm your host Tony speaking again with me tonight is hi me and tonight we're just gonna be talking stellar blade the demo and a couple of games that we've been playing hell divers. Where hellard I is right now and and final fantasy rebirth where hyy is in that game. So yeah, it's ah, not a whole lot of topics. But we're gonna jump in right in to what we've been playing and then we'll move on to stellar blade. So.

I am loving it I'm 34 hours into the main campaign yet. It does not feel like it's anywhere near close to ending and I'm really enjoying the everything in here I mentioned the last time that we spoke that. There is a lot of mini gamemes and guess what ever since you and I spoke last time there's been more mini games. Okay, just just throw that out there. It is still a lot of that. However, they don't seem to drag on too much. They're. Playful. They're fun. They serve a purpose and you move on to the next thing. 1 thing though is that this game is divided by chapters. It's very episodic that way I was kind of kind of upset that there's 1 whole chapter where. All all everything you do in. There is nothing but mini games and then at the end a boss fight like a legit bos fight not a mini game boss fight and I was curious like this is one of those where the current level that you start the chapter hat. Is basically the level you have to be. You know you you have to be at the right level to complete this boss fight. Otherwise you get stuck. There's no leveling up in between.

But it's but the vigils in this game are just amazing. The in game cinematics. Ah there's a new synergy mechanic where your characters do unleash attacks together based on certain conditions. And you unlock these synergy abilities by deepening is what they call it your relationship where your other friends and your party which is why I mentioned before it's it picked up this element from the persona series. There's a lot to keep me engaged and and the side quests aren't. Too terrible like dying light too as far as the amount of them. But there's plenty to keep you coming back. So if you haven't played it. This is this is definitely one of the best games of the year so far.

I um, as far as everything that I've played so far. It's definitely on the short list of candidates that can make it to be a conduct contender at the end of the year there's nothing out there so far that I think has the quality. Nor the unique uniqueness to it although you might prove me wrong today when we talk about stellar blade. Um, it's.

Yeah, no, it's definitely better by by far the sheer amount of characters now that that you have in your party ah doubled and you still don't have I still don't have the full roster that I know final fantasy seven has. So. There's still 2 more characters that I haven't unlocked and I've tried my best to keep away from spoilers. So I don't know if you actually unlock them in this game or do you actually get to play them in the next sequel that it'll come out in like 5 years because.

There's one character specifically read um who in the previous game. He actually did show up in the game like in the last act but he was not a playable character and so I'm curious if they'll throw some of that here where you'll get the next characters. And they'll just be around like like red was but they might not help you but at least it's like they're there right.

They so it's 3 characters active. They made it really easy where you can change your party without going into the menus there I mean they they thought about the fact that you're going to be having to shift around your your your active formation. Based on the circumstances but you know your bread and butter are cloud Tifa Erith and Barrett right? Those were the the main ones that were in the previous game add into this game red and now eufi so I'm at 6 and I just got to the point in the game where I pick up the internet is probably divided on how you pronounce this but I just picked up Kate sit or cat sit whatever you want to call him so that brings it up to 7 and there's still 2 more that if you were played the original game. You know they're they're coming up.

This is a little bit of a spoiler territory but in the actual original game. There is a decent chunk where Cloud leaves your party because of certain events that happen.

She ere she can be just a powerhouse man if you as soon as a fight starts you can conjure up a ward and as long as you're standing inside this area. There's different wards one that'll boost like defense cer characteristics. 1 that if you cast a spell it'll double it up right away like if you're you're casting 2 instead of 1 and one that basically turns all of her base base attacks. She looks like she's shooting lasers left and right she is she is just I like to. Immediately as soon as I can conjure up a war with her and then I just leave her in the space where this word is at then then I'll swap out into a different character and you know I got cloud or uy doing their thing and all of a sudden you just start seeing seeing lasers coming from all over the place because you. The ai who's just controlling her has started to attack but it it really over overpowers her she can take that swarms of of characters in this game just by herself.

Yeah, is there a mechanism. Um where you can tell the character how to perform when you're not controlling.

And I think that there's a way where you can change your characters to be a little bit more offensive or focused on on keeping the other party members healthy. Um, whether it be by items or using material. I Have really haven't played along with it because I'm I'm very good at swapping out characters Mid mid-battle because even though it's an active battle timer you can when you're trying to control another character. Everything pauses not necessarily pauses because everything starts moving in slow motion.

So you have enough time to do something with your other characters. So I I try to balance out how much I'm using the characters mid-battle and you know also I just thought about something you were just asking about like cloud always being in your roster There are many points in the game. Where your characters now because you have more than four. They'll branch off in different paths and so you'll be playing ah as 2 characters or 3 characters who go into a mind shaft and then 3 other characters that went up some elevators. And there's some spots where the game puts you in ah in a party of 2 and you're right away. No ode. It's because you're about to pick up a new character or something that's why they they put you in parties of too because you're going to run into somebody who's going to become your third your third character so it's it's.

Man the more I play this the more I'm liking it I'm not going to blow it out of proportions. It's the greatest game ever. But it is a really decent follow up to the previous game. It's it's got my attention literally got my full undivided attention right now.

Okay, so with your again, we go back to your your support characters. Do They have their own quest lines and stuff that you can kind of help them complete to I know that's a thing. It's a lot of games where. Have a roster of support characters and you can do quest for them like they have personal quests at that branch off into more quests and and you build that relationship up with them.

And so so as far as understanding the main the what drives each character just playing the main campaign will tell you hey this happened to bear this happened to Ray this happened at Tifa and they you start connecting the dots. But yes. It's the it's the side quests where upon completing them, you start deepening your relationship your relationship with the other characters. There's some for example you again, there's a mini game where you have you get to play a game that's similar to soccer with with red which. You know it's up for debateit whether he's a cat or a dog I'm um, um, um, more on the side that he's the he's feline. Um, ah and if you happen to win this game you you know you deepen your relationship with red. There's some minigames where you go and you shoot things and so if you do that you deepen your relationship with Barrett. So there's like it's it's really the side quests that make you ah unlock these these synergy skills because of that. So. It's depending on how much synergy skills you want to use or be able to have access to and yeah it's yeah you can you can't go that route and I'm doing that? Yeah, probably 30 4 34.

I I was I was reading somebody who posted that he was 80 hours into the game and he still didn't he still hadn't finished it so I don't know if this is somebody who's taking his time but 80 hours is a decent amount of game of game time. For a game these days if I get if I get 40 between 40 and 60 hours I'm happy with that game.

Yeah, that 80 hours is a lot. Um, and yeah like I think what we've we've talked about before you know I think the games are gonna get shorter and shorter in future that way you know. There's not as much time from concept to final product and not as much money having to be spent so this this might be 1 of the rare rare type of games that you you that are coming at this length going forward so we'll see.

It is not our fault and and where you're going in There's there's 1 person that greets you at the entrance and and she's telling us. Don't do this Don't do that. Don't pat the kangaroos on the head if they have a baby. Do not go near the babies but bla blah. Um anyway, so you go into this why it's a really big quiet enclosure and there's no nobody. There. It's just. You know the tourists and kangaroos so anyway I'm there and I'm taking video and I'm kid you not like six feet away from me. There's this 1 kangaroo who's on his back just you know chill in and join the sun.
